SPOTD: Meeting new neighbors

Growing up, neighbors were people you actually knew.  When a new family showed up, my family would gather up some sort of baked good on a plate and introduce ourselves to the new kids on the block.  I'm not sure if its just a Bay Area thing or apartment attitude thing, but I never really knew any of my neighbors because they either are never around to introduce or they move out before I can introduce myself.  Today, however, I was able to meet my neighbor as we both headed into our apartments.  It was kind of a frazzled meeting since she was ushering her part-time kids (her words) in the door, but she seems nice!  My Simple Pleasure of the Day is meeting my new neighbor.

It's good to know your neighbors because:

- They could be cool people as friends go.  You may be missing out on potential friends.

- They could help you out in times of need.  From a cup of sugar to helping move furniture, if you know them well enough it won't be weird to ask.

- They could be unfortunate people that you should know of regardless if their likable or not.  Potential serial killer?  Sex offender?  Child porn collector?  Good to know at least who you're living next to in general so if you're interviewed by the police because your neighbor was arrested, you won't be all "I don't know, I have no idea who he is because I don't know any of my neighbors."
